PLC: Bulk Electric Systems and Distributed Generation

Our Bulk Electric Systems and Distributed Generation course explores bulk electric systems in terms of system stability, zone protection, voltage compensation methods, and active and reactive power compensation. Learn about bulk electric system operation and control (while considering frequency and voltage variation) and the requirements for 500 kV and 230 kV system protections. Also develop a better understanding of the new distributed generation systems (including wind, solar, and other micro-generators), how they interact with the bulk electric system, and their requirements when connected to the grid. Study communication-based protection (including pilot channels and permissive and blocking schemes). Using IEEE Recommended Practice and Requirements for Harmonic Control in Electric Power Systems (also known as IEEE Std 519), consider the requirements for point of common coupling (PCC) voltage control (including power quality and total harmonic distortion in current and voltage).
