MMRI Industrial Training Program – Design and Modelling

This course combines several one-day modules to teach students design and modelling techniques and how to apply them to industry situations. Topics covered include: 2D modelling of turning processes and modelling of milling processes using a commercial finite element package; the effect of different machining conditions on chip flow, temperature and stress; finite element modelling of surface integrity issues such as residual stress under different conditions; modelling for design and performance evaluation of coated and uncoated machining tools; effects of rake angle and coating on chip flow, temperature, and stress distribution; how to design products aligned with customer requirements; creation and modification of 2D geometry using Mastercam; and solid modelling techniques in Mastercam and their advantages over wireframing.
