Machine Shop Theory

Intended for individuals employed, or seeking employment, in the industrial mechanical area who wish to enhance their knowledge of general machine shop practice and/or to improve practical skills on specific, conventional machine tools. Machine Tool Operators may operate machine tools such as lathes, drilling machines, milling machines, grinders, or special purpose machines to machine work piece on a production basis. This course is designed for students with practical experience who require further theoretical background. Topics include: turning, milling and grinding theory, safety procedures and related set-up and operational calculations of formulae, for the following machine tools: engine lathe, basic drilling, milling and surface grinding machines. The course will also include metric conversion, and the proper use and applications of related hand tools, layout tools and measuring tools.
